Have You Met: Grace Eio

Grace is the Head of Operations at EASTWEST. Having been in the industry for 13 years, she shares her insights on how she juggles finance, human resources and administration in a business:
1. Tell me a little more about yourself?
I manage the overall operations at EASTWEST. I used to be part of the EASTWEST team some years back as the Financial Controller. It has been an honor and privilege for me to rejoin the team again. I have 18 years’ of experience in finance, operations and human resources.

2. As Head of Operations, how does an average day for you look like?
I start off everyday by planning and prioritising my tasks, which ensures that I accomplish something  important every day. My priorities are clear on my role to support the overall business.

As Sun Tzu says in Art of War, “Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.” Therefore, it is important that in this service industry where people are the key resources, I prepare the groundwork by ensuring the right people and right practices are in place.

3. How do you balance out your career at EASTWEST and your family?
Regardless of the industry you are in or the position you hold, it is easy to designate everything as important. However, it is necessary to discern what your priorities really are and you can balance your time from there.

Aside from being Head of Operations, I am a wife, a mother, a daughter and a daughter-in-law. Work-life balance is easier said than done but it is possible if you are clear on your priorities. I am blessed as my family has been a strong support system over the years, which allowed me to pursue my career.

4. How has the industry changed since you started out?
I have been in the PR industry since 2004. There are significant changes in the industry, specifically in the media landscape, as digital has gained traction to complement traditional media. PR support is also no longer stagnant and has evolved to become an integrated service.

5. What are some qualities you look for in a candidate?
An adventurous attitude, a passion for the job and one who is a good team player.

6. What is your life motto?
“Live life to the fullest”.
