First Nationwide Multi-Fleet Truck Mobility Assistance Program Launched in China

GAO AN, CHINA, 18 May 2018 -The Warranty Group (TWG), a global leader in warranty solutions and after-sales services, today announced the launch of a China-wide “Truck  Mobility Assistance Program.” This is the first program to provide one central point of contact 24/7, 365 days a year, across multiple fleets and will enable prompt, reliable and cost-effective breakdown services to the logistics industry.  In partnership with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), TWG will connect fleet owners and truck drivers with more than 4,000 service stations nationwide, and aims to enroll 10,000 trucks within a year and 25 percent of national fleets within three years. In China, the domestic truck service industry is characterized by variable service levels and basic technologies leading to low efficiency — all of which create the need for a nationwide service to facilitate mobility assistance. Trucks account for the majority of the freight transport market and their use is increasing at a fast rate. In 2014, more than 33 billion tons of freight crossed the country, with more than 90 percent of the freight market dominated by small companies with fewer than 50 trucks. Most of these companies are “owner-driver” firms. By 2015, there were more than six million of these operators, and some 30 million drivers. From January to October 2016, freight expanded by 6.1 percent year on year to 187.2 trillion yuan ($27.5 trillion), according to data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP). TWG’s TMAP program will cater to an industry which is of crucial economic importance to China. TWG has built partnerships with leading truck OEMs and manufacturers to designate over 4,000 OEM-approved service stations nationwide, accessible to drivers via a toll-free hotline and a social media based app.  Drivers will be able to share location and mechanical information with the 24/7 call center and nearest service stations will be notified to enable prompt dispatch of the repair crew using warranty approved parts and technicians. Drivers at the roadside will receive updates on the status of their repair in real time, and will be then able to plan their onward journey and advise the delivery depots to avoid further delay and loss of earnings. We do that by offering a 24/7 national service hotline that takes care of the vehicle and all the administration.” The nationwide service will begin operation on 30 May 2018 and will have over 1,000 trucks enrolled at launch, with the aim of enrolling 10,000 trucks within the first 12 months of operation, added Mr Yuan. Truck drivers enrolling onto the program will pay an annual membership fee dependent on the age of the vehicle.
