LinkedIn Acquiring SlideShare: Professionally Profound?

Linkedin Acquires SlideShareWith LinkedIn making waves recently for its acquisition of SlideShare, LinkedIn has made it easier to share and access presentations across its own platform. As has been shown time and again, B2B marketing over LinkedIn has the most ROI, and this acquisition hammers that point home. As LinkedIn is already the social network for everything career-oriented, now that SlideShare will become even more integrated into LinkedIn will yield even more results in B2B marketing efforts over LinkedIn. LinkedIn Lead Generation After all, one of the most important part process of winning new business is the presentation. Now that this feature of presentation sharing will become more integrated into LinkedIn than it is already, we may start seeing more accounts being won through LinkedIn. Says CEO of LinkedIn Jeff Weiner of the acquisition:

"Presentations are one of the main ways in which professionals capture and share their experiences and knowledge, which in turn helps shape their professional identity. These presentations also enable professionals to discover new connections and gain the insights they need to become more productive and successful in their careers, aligning perfectly with LinkedIn’s mission and helping us deliver even more value for our members."

In addition to this acquisition making life easier on generating new business through LinkedIn, it also makes the life of the PR professional easier when sourcing Influencers as well. As the merger will undoubtedly make the two online platforms more mutually accessible, it will logically follow that professionals on LinkedIn will be able to easily cross-post their presentations through SlideShare and vice-versa. It will now be easier to tell if someone not only can ‘talk the talk’ of posting experience on their LinkedIn profile, but also show their work by posting presentations on SlideShare for all to see. What do you think? Will this acquisition be a good thing or a bad thing for PR, marketing and professionals in the long run? Leave a comment on the blog and let us know!
