Men are from Mars, women are from Venus: How Gender Influences Practice

(Disclaimer: This blog post is an opinion piece and the contents within are based from personal experience and a personal point of view. Please take it with a pinch of salt.) My inspiration for this blog post came about when I noticed how the genders deal with the work on hand, and thus an idea was spun. The topic on the differences between man and woman is not commonly discussed (as far as I know), but it is something worthwhile to ponder about. From the beginning of time, there can be no denial that man and women have been wired very differently in every aspect. Different societies from all over the world each have their own perception of what a man and a woman should do, be it in family or career. The challenges faced in life are dealt very differently between the two genders. Men often look ahead and seek to find a logical solution to the problem at hand. On the other hand, women often let their hearts lead them. No amount of logical explanation will be able to convince them to have a mindset change. (I’ve personally experienced it!) Men in general are also less meticulous than women. When getting down to a task, men do not focus on the nitty gritty. We tend to always look at the bigger picture, whereas women on the other hand are the opposite, even managing to pick up the slightest of details at times. 2 In the context of Public Relations, I personally feel that women are more suited to do the industry’s work. Then begs the question, “what am I doing here in a PR firm?” I would say that in a nutshell, men might not excel as well as their female counterparts. However, I will stress again that this differs between individuals. God did not make everyone the same, so to speak. Moreover, I am pretty sure I have only just scratched the surface with regards to this topic. If I were a reader of this blog post, i wouldn’t base my decision on whether to enter the PR industry on this blog post. If one doesn’t try, one will never know.
